DepartmentBSD MIC - Khader LabAbout the DepartmentThe Department
of Microbiology faculty researches a vast array of bacteria and
viruses. We are a community of faculty, postdoctoral scholars,
students, and staff committed to research and education in the
field of microbiology. Our faculty conduct interdisciplinary
research that advances the study of microbes and microbial
diseases. Basic research in Microbiology underwrites our effort for
eradication of important pathogens, prevention of human diseases,
development of gene therapies and the evolution of new strategies
for personalized medicine. We are also committed to training the
next generation of scientists. This at-will position is wholly or
partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed
under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment
will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds
and satisfactory job performance.Job SummaryThe job develops and
implements programs to promote a research project or contributes to
the scientific direction of a research
resource.Responsibilities
- Perform experiments and perform analysis utilizing advanced
microbiology and immunology skills in cloning, genetic
manipulations, data analysis, statistical analysis, animal
infections, ELISA assays, cell culture and primary cell growth,
handling of human blood, cell sorting, fluorescent microscopy,
biochemistry, and protein purification.
- Serve as a resource for collecting data and performing
analysis. Facilitate and promote a research project by providing
scientific or intellectual information.
- Develop laboratory protocols and training on new techniques.
Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for
research.
- Create first drafts for scientific writing and publications,
including protocols and grants.
- Train and mentor laboratory personnel.
- Perform other related work as needed.Minimum
QualificationsEducation: Minimum requirements include a PhD in a
related field.---Work Experience: Minimum requirements include
knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience
in a related job discipline.---Certifications:---Preferred
QualificationsExperience:
- Experience working with animals.
- Experience in cloning, genetic manipulations, data analysis,
statistical analysis, animal infections, ELISA assays, cell culture
and primary cell growth, handling of human blood, cell sorting,
fluorescent microscopy, biochemistry, and protein
purification.
- High level of competence to design and independently carry out
experimental assays and studies.
- Oversight of compliance including biosafety and lab safety
policies and procedures.
- High level thinking with respect to designing scientific
hypothesis and proposing experimental design to test the
